The more I reflect on the circumstances of my having become a student of meditation teacher Sri Chinmoy, the more I realise that it was less to do with own efforts and more to with guidance from within.
If we have the inner hunger, we will be led to the goal. As soon as I realised that the desire for anything lasting in the material world was a futile quest, the door into a new reality opened up. Soon after beginning meditation, which started with curiosity, I began to be interested in spirituality. I read lots of Hindu and Buddhist literature, and became convinced that I had to be released from the suffering of ignorance and help others to do the same. I had some vivid dreams and meditation experiences, which explained to me that I had a spiritual master waiting for me who I had to find very soon in order to continue my inner journey.
Sure enough, I "coincidentally" found the meditation classes at the Auckland Sri Chinmoy Centre and soon became a member. There's been a lot of life changes since then, all for the better. Giving up old attachments can be hard, but it lets us evolve so that we can get true joy. If you don't let the mind hold you back and just go forward continually with as much energy and determination as you can, the benefits are unimaginable.
Meditation is a helpful practice for most spiritual seekers. Even if you do not think that spirituality is for you, it gives you so much benefit in your everyday life. You will learn heaps more about yourself. Sri Chinmoy has helped me to understand that problems will be dealt with more easily as you become more detached. You will feel more contented with less. There's so many millions of reasons I can't possibly count them all.
